Coupons

Create discount codes for products, services or event tickets, set limits on them, and see who used them.

A coupon is a code buyers type at checkout for money off. Northside Pottery might hand out WELCOME10 to newsletter subscribers, or a code for past students to get a wheel-throwing class cheaper. Every code you make, whatever it discounts, is in Commerce → Coupons.

Each coupon covers one kind of thing: products, services or event tickets. A code never spans two kinds.

Create a coupon

Go to Commerce → Coupons. Select Product coupon, or open the arrow beside the button and choose Service coupon or Event coupon.

Enter the Code. Letters and numbers only. Case doesn't matter, so buyers can type "welcome10" or "WELCOME10".

Under Discount, choose Percentage off and enter the Percent, up to 100, or Fixed amount off and enter the Amount.

Under Works on, choose where the code applies. See the table below. If you pick specific items, choose them in the picker that appears.

For event coupons, choose Who can use it. See Cohost links.

Open Limits if you want to restrict the code. Every limit is optional.

Leave Active on and select Create coupon.

Works on

Coupon kindOptions
ProductEvery product or Chosen products
ServiceEvery service or Chosen services
EventEvery event, Chosen events or Chosen tickets of one event

The "every" options include products, services or events you add later. Custom offers you send from your inbox never take a code.

When you cohost an event, each cohost can share their own link to it. An event coupon can be tied to those links:

  • Anyone can use the code.
  • Only through a cohost's link works for buyers who arrived through any cohost's link.
  • Only through one cohost's link works only through the cohost you pick. Use it to give each cohost a code of their own. To pick a cohost, Works on must name specific events that have cohosts.

Coupon status

The list shows each code's discount, where it works, how many times it's been used, and its dates.

StatusMeaning
LiveBuyers can use it now.
ScheduledIts start date hasn't come yet.
ExpiredIts end date has passed.
Used upIt has reached its Total uses.
OffYou turned it off. This wins over every other status.

Use the All, Products, Services and Events tabs, the status filter and the search box to find a code.

Manage a coupon

Select a coupon to edit it, or open its ⋮ menu:

  • Edit changes any field. Changes apply to future checkouts. Past orders keep what they paid.
  • Redemptions lists every use, newest first, with the buyer's email, the time and the amount taken off, plus the total discount given.
  • Copy code copies it to your clipboard.
  • Turn off stops the code working without deleting it. Turn on brings it back.
  • Delete removes it for good. Past orders keep what they paid.

What buyers see

Product and service checkouts have a Discount code box with an Apply button in the order summary. Event checkout has a code box with an Apply button too. Once a code is applied, the discount shows as its own line in the totals. On your side, the order shows the discount and the code used. See Product orders.
