Shop

Set up your shop, add your first product, and see where it shows up and how orders reach you.

Your shop sells physical things people get posted or collect, and downloads they get by email. Northside Pottery, for example, sells stoneware mugs that ship, glaze kits customers pick up at the studio, and a PDF of glaze recipes. Buyers pay by card through Stripe, and the money goes to your own Stripe account.

Everything for selling lives under Commerce in the dashboard sidebar. Select it and the sidebar switches to the Commerce pages:

Services and offers have their own section in these docs. See Services.

Quick start

Connect Stripe

Go to Commerce → Store settings and select Connect Stripe on the Payments row. You finish setup on Stripe's site, then land back in Lahuta. Get paid walks through it. A product with a price can't go on sale until this is done. Free products don't need it.

Decide how orders reach buyers

Still in Store settings, set your shipping rate, and add a ship-from address if you'll use carrier rates. If customers can collect from you, turn on Pickup and add the address. See Shipping and pickup.

Add a product

Go to Commerce → Products and select Add product. Give it a name, a category, a price, and choose how buyers get it. Select Create and the product's page opens.

Fill it in and put it on sale

Add pictures and a description. If it comes in sizes or colours, add options on the Variants tab. When it's ready, change Status to Active. Products covers every field.

Show it on your page

Open your Express Page editor and add a Products block. It shows your active products in a grid with a Buy button on each. See Express Page.

Where your products show up

  • Its own page. Every active product has a page at lahuta.org/shop/<your-slug>/<product-link>. Share it anywhere.
  • Your Express Page. The Products block lists your active products. Its title is "Shop" unless you change it.
  • The Lahuta shop. lahuta.org/shop lists products from many organizations. Yours appear there when the product is Active, its Let other shops feature it switch is on, and Listed on discover is on in your organization settings. See Discover.
  • Your own website. A developer can list your products and send buyers to checkout through the Org API. See Sell products on your site.

What buyers see

On a product page the buyer picks any options, sees the price, and selects Add to cart. The cart groups items by store. If it holds items from more than one store, each store checks out on its own: "Items from different stores are checked out separately."

Checkout asks for their name and email, then delivery. They choose Ship to me or Pick up in store when you offer both. Shipping is added from your rates, and they can enter a coupon in the Discount code box. They pay by card, or with Apple Pay or Google Pay where their device supports it, and select Place order. The page notes that "Payments are processed by Stripe".

How an order moves

The buyer pays

The order shows in Commerce → Product orders as Confirmed. The buyer gets an "Order confirmed" email. If the order has downloads, the files come in a second email so they're easy to find later. Everyone on your team gets a new order email, which each person can turn off in Notifications. The buyer is added to your contacts.

You send it or get it ready

For a posted order, select Mark shipped and enter the carrier and tracking number. For a pickup, select Mark ready for pickup. The buyer gets an email either way.

It's handed over

Select Mark delivered or Mark picked up. The order's fulfillment becomes Completed. Downloads skip these steps.

Product orders covers cancelling and refunds.
