Newsletter
Collect subscribers, sort them into topics, and write and send newsletter editions to each topic.
Your newsletter goes to people who asked to hear from you. They subscribe to one or more topics, and each edition you write goes to everyone on a topic. Northside Pottery might have a "Studio news" topic for everyone and a "New classes" topic for people who only want to know when a course opens.
This is different from a campaign, which goes to contacts you pick whether they subscribed or not. Use the newsletter for regular mail to people who opted in.
Open it from Marketing → Newsletter. It has four tabs: Overview, Topics, Members and Emails.
Set up your topics
On the Topics tab, select New topic.
Enter a Topic name and a Description that tells subscribers what they'll get, and pick a Color.
Turn on Subscribe new members by default if everyone who signs up without choosing topics should land on this one.
Select Create topic.
Default topics are marked Default in the list. Each topic's ⋮ menu has Edit topic, Compose to this topic and Delete topic. Deleting a topic ends everyone's subscription to it. Past editions keep their history.
If you add subscribers before making a topic, Lahuta makes a first one for you.
Get subscribers
- A signup form on your Express Page. Add the Subscribe block. See Express Page.
- A signup form on your own website. Your web developer can use the Org API.
- Add people yourself. On the Members tab, select Add subscribers. Choose From contacts to pick people, or Paste emails to paste addresses, one per line or separated by commas. Tick the topics they join. If you tick none, they join your default topics. Select Subscribe.
- From Contacts. Select people in CRM → Contacts and choose Subscribe to… in the bar.
- Invite people. On the Members tab, select Invite. Add addresses one at a time or use Upload a list for a CSV or text file, then select Send invites. Each address gets one email with a link to join. People who are already members are skipped.
Pasted addresses that aren't contacts yet become contacts.
Confirm subscriptions
On the Overview tab, the Confirm subscriptions card has one switch: Require confirmation. When it's on, each new subscriber gets an email with a link and only joins once they select it. This means fewer signups, but no typos or fake addresses, and better delivery.
It applies to signups from then on, including people you add yourself. Until they confirm, they show as Awaiting confirmation. On the Members tab, their Pending badge has a button to resend the confirmation email.
When someone confirms, they see a page saying they're subscribed. If the link has expired, the page asks them to request a new confirmation email.
Write and send an edition
Select New newsletter at the top of the page, or Compose on a topic.
Under Audience, choose the topic it goes to. Each topic shows its subscriber count.
Write the Subject.
Write the body. Press / to add a block. The panel on the right sets the Theme, Basic or Minimal, the style of whatever block you've selected, and Global CSS if you want to write your own styles.
Select Unsubscribe link to put the link in the email. Every edition needs one before it can send.
Select Preview to check it. Then select Send, or use the clock button to pick a date and time and select Schedule.
The edition saves as you write. Send stays off until it has a subject, a topic and the unsubscribe link.
Track your editions
The Emails tab lists every edition with All, Drafts, Scheduled and Sent filters, and a search by subject. Each shows its topic and, once sent, Recipients, Delivered, Opened, Clicked and Failed. Open a sent edition to see its numbers and the email as it went out.
A scheduled edition's ⋮ menu has Cancel schedule, which turns it back into a draft. A draft's menu has Delete draft.
The Overview tab sums up your list: Subscribers, Awaiting confirmation, Joined this month, Unsubscribed, Topics, Avg. open rate and Avg. click rate, with your latest editions below.
Members
The Members tab lists everyone who has joined, with their topics, Status, Source and when they Joined. Filter by status, Subscribed, Awaiting confirmation or Unsubscribed, and by topic.
Source shows how they joined: Dashboard, Invite, Import, API or Website.
Each member's ⋮ menu has Open contact and Unsubscribe from all, which takes them off every topic. Their contact stays in your address book.
What subscribers see when they unsubscribe
The unsubscribe link opens a page asking "Stop marketing email?" with a Confirm unsubscribe button. Once they confirm, they stop getting marketing email from you, including campaigns. Order and account emails still arrive.
